Ruth Roman was born on June 22, 1939 on June 22, 1939 in Lynn Massachusetts. She was the first child born to Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. As a young girl the carnival barker father died which left Ruth's mother with no choice but to become a cleaner lady and waitress in order to provide for the family. Ruth was raised in a poor area of Boston Massachusetts in which she went to high school. She left the school after just two years of school to explore a career in acting. Her chosen path proved to be strewn with obstacles: in New York, she obtained a job posing for stills for a crime magazine However, the stage was not a match for her. Following a short period as a hat-wearing club girl, she decided to return home to the United States and quit the job she was working in. In Boston, she worked to make the ends meet by working by working as an usher during the day while working at night in the New England Repertory Company, the first job she had that was steady. She graduated with a certificate in drama at Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
